Seeking Players For A Game / Superhero Oneshot: The Lazarus Mirror

I'd be up for this. I'm not familiar with your prefered systems, but I'm ready to learn. My schedule is erratic, but usually availble 4:30pm EDT and after.

Seeking Players For A Game / Superhero Oneshot: The Lazarus Mirror

A new reality show is testing wanna-be heroes, but you aren't a contestant...no, you've been hired to play a villain. Maybe you are a reformed villain who needs work on the outside, maybe you're an ex-hero who needs the money, maybe you're a hero who doesn't trust the villains they've hired, maybe you're the contestant who got booted and who the show says has now joined the villain team.

And this week they're doing a museum heist. It's a little weird because they gave you the blueprints of the museum they created for this, because the director and sound man are standing just over there, and because the friend of the Argent Alembic is dressed like a security guard right over there, but at least you know that (a) heroes are going to show up and (b) they've assured you that none of this mystic-looking stuff is real, though you have to behave like it is.

System to be determined. I'd prefer ICONS or Supers! Revised Edition (both easy to teach in a couple of minutes), but I can do M&M 3E/DCA or Marvel Heroic Roleplaying if that's what people would prefer.

I haven't indicated a time or date because I'm trying to gauge interest. I'm currently unemployed so I'm often flexible.

Game Systems Discussion / The Quiet Year

When I've played, we've spent the tokens to set projects back (which is kind of a house-rule thing) or start more detrimental/self-interested projects, including to destroy or change other stuff. I believe that's what you're supposed to spend those tokens to do-- start projects like that?

Game Systems Discussion / The Quiet Year

It's purpose is as a barometer for the amount of discontent you feel is in the community (but it also  easily represents a player's frustration in the game). There is no mechanical effect to back it up, so it's the equivalent of drawing a frowny face a bunch of times in chat :( :( :(.

The purpose of it could be to draw the players into working to a comprise, but I haven't seen that happening, and the only way to discuss the issues in the community are to do it on someone's turn meaning that the other two options of discovery and starting a new project become the oppurtunity cost.

The only way I can see Contempt be meaningful in The Quiet Year is for the player to agree to only take it when they see a significant problem in the community and the other players agree that they will recognize it and react to it in the "Yes, and" manner people use in improv.

Short of that it becomes someone whining usslessly on one side and everyone else ignoring them on the other, and that's pointless.

Thanks for posting this. I look forward to reading your notes.

BTW, is contempt something in the game, or in the shadowy depths of your heart?

Game Systems Discussion / The Quiet Year

Last night I played 'The Quiet Year' for the first time.  Our intent was to play the game as a lead in to an Apocalypse World campaign that will be starting next week, to define the world and challenges.  It worked relatively well.

Good Stuff:

The cards are great for things to consider about the community and what kind of things happen.  Having a common recent history built for the holding was good as well.  Some great threats and fronts emerged that will be fun, for me as MC, to play with in the campaign.  My future players had no problem screwing their future selves over, which I love about them.  The map we built is actually pretty cool.

Not so Good Stuff:

Contempt.  The part of the rules mechanic doens't work that great.  It seems to not work great, at least not with the group I was with.  Also, Per the rules, discussion during any path other than 'Have a Discussion' is discouraged/forbidden, but we also didn't do well at that, which for this game was fine, since we were building a place for the PCs to live in in the future.

The notes from the game.

Seeking A Game To Play / Looking to play Monsterhearts

Hi, all! I'm new here on Infrno and looking to join a game of Monsterhearts! I've never played before, but I'm fairly familiar through reading the rulebook and listening to actual plays. General RP experience-wise, I play in a weekly Pathfinder campaign and have played more improv-oriented games like Fiasco and Maid RPG in the past.

A one-shot Monsterhearts game might be ideal to try the system out, but I'm open to campaign play as well. My preference would be to play on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evening, EST.

Hi, everyone!

Also, you can find an Infrno community on G+ that is pretty quiet but if you post there, I'll see it sooner than I would on this forum.  Introduce yourself there!

General / The Chat Room

We've had some sadness with our chat room over the past year, and the transition to a new one is being worked on.  However, I'm gonna try and hang out in the room for a while each day when I can.  So if you're new, or want to just chat, please, hang out in there and someone will pop by to hang.

Say hi!  The note stays there a while.

Jonathan

GMing: Monsterhearts: The Rise of Winter Valley, East Texas University, Primetime Adventures: Lotus and Sand
Playing: Deadlands Reloaded: Deadwood Blues, Urban Shadows: Ticket to Ride

General / want to learn how to play

Hi. What kind of games do you like? That'd really be a big help, as then I'd know which way to point you.

Or, better yet, what kind of stories do you enjoy? Since this is really more of a medium for telling stories than playing games, that'd really help me figure out what direction to point you in.

Seeking A Game To Play / Seeking Pathfinder campaign or Homebrew

Hey Ariana. If you're open to trying new systems, what genres are you interested in? A lot of what gets played around here isn't the usual DnD/Pathfinder sort of thing, but so it'd be good to know what kind of stories you like. Anyway, welcome to Infnro!

Seeking Players For A Game / PLAY TEST: STAR CRUISE

I've been writing a Star Trek inspired roleplaying game called Star Cruise (working title). Class based sytem with task resolutiuon done through a simple 3D6 roll (adding an attribute and class modifier) I'm looking to combine Old School design with a mix of sci-fi and horror. Brave members of the Star Union explore hex-based star maps exploring new worlds, accepting missions and discovering the strange and disturbing Forbidden knowledge and technology waiting for them in the void.

I've got to the stage where I'm ready to run some play tests so I'm looking for some eager players who are willing to put the system through its paces and give valuable feedback. I'd be looking for 3-5 players who'd be able to play either Saturday/Sunday around 1pm/2pm CST.

Is anyone interested in exploring the final frontier of roleplaying?

Seeking Players For A Game / ICONS: the HIVE Swarm

Ah. I should describe ICONS for the people who don't know it.

Think of it as the lovechild between FASERIP and FATE. I'd say it's more rules-light than, say, Mutants and Masterminds.

Six attributes, specialties (aka skills) add to the appropriate attribute, and a variety of powers. Damage is largely fixed (that is, a level 7 blast does 7 points of damage). The roll is your attribute + 1D6 versus the opponent's attribute + 1D6 or, in an unopposed roll, a target number.

Player characters have Determination Points, which are quite like Fate points, and let you as a player influence various mechanical things. The more powers you have, the fewer Determination points you start with.

All characters have Qualities which work in a very FATE-like manner, and can be compelled or used by the PC, though the ways in which they're used are a bit more defined.

The default is a random roll for character creation, but there is a point buy option. You can modify powers with extras and limitations. There is a mostly-complete character generator here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3757960/ICONS/Editor.html but it does require you to know what you're doing.

Here's a sample character I just rolled up:

Cosmo "Lightning" Collins, possessor of a ring with a magic genie.

Prowess: 6
Coordination: 6
Strength: 4
Intellect: 5
Awareness: 6
Willpower: 9
Stamina: 13
Determination: 2
Specialties Martial Arts, Occult, Linguistics
Powers Magic 6 (genie in magic lamp) Extra: Emotion Control 6, Extra: Telekinesis
Qualities: Favors action over discussion; Eye for a pretty face; Wants to do the right thing.

Cosmo was acting as languages expert on an archaeological dig when he found a ring with what looked like the Seal of Solomon on it. He tried it on, and found that he had control of the genie of the ring, who has now learned English. An amateur boxer, Cosmo (or "Lightning," as he prefers to be called) can take care of himself, but his ability to force his will on the genie is the thing that makes others care about the ring.

Seeking Players For A Game / ICONS: the HIVE Swarm

All right, I'll step up. This is a fairly standard Supers kind of game, using ICONS Assembled (because I'm writing an adventure for it for a game publisher). (This is not yet that adventure!) I'm thinking a series of linked adventures, loose membership as people decide whether they like my GMing style or their characters. We'll start with one adventure (which will probably be several sessions because I can't seem to keep anything short.) If people are having fun, we'll extend to another, and so on.

Two to four characters, all folks who have heard of one another and aren't against working together. (Ideally a team, but not necessarily.) Action starts in one city, but be open to the occasional world- or galaxy- or dimension-spanning adventure. Mechanical part of character creation would be by email or here in the forums before the first session.

Setting will be a mix of the implied setting in the ICONS stuff and my own stuff. I'll be shooting for a Bronze Age feel, but might not get it. Characters will probably be the premier characters in the city (unless you don't want to be).

I'm willing to teach anyone without the rules. The first edition of ICONS is PWYW at RPGNow; I can summarize the differences for anyone who wants to know. (If you know ICONS, I don't care if it's random or 45-point build plus origin, any origin power levels level 5.) I'm in EDT, and my availability is Thursday nights through Sunday nights or Sunday afternoon.

Any interest?
