About this game
The X-Men: Fighting for Those Who Hate and Fear Them.
Around the world, this team of mutant superheroes fights to keep the world safe from evil mutants and other threats to humanity, all while trying to bridge the gap between man and mutant. However, the other mission of the X-Men is less talked about: the education of young mutants.
That's where we come in.
Here at the Xavier Institute, we strive to provide an environment where young mutants can get a solid foundation in academics, life skills, and the control and proper use of mutant powers. Every student is given all the opportunities to excel, make new friends, and be ready to face both adulthood and the rest of the world, proud of being a mutant.
*We are not a terrorist cell, nor do we believe in making young mutants into militants. Self-defense is what we advocate.
Either way, we hope you are now able to make a well-informed decision about your academic future.
Mutant, and proud,
Scott Summers & Emma Frost
This will be a game focusing on the lives of a group of young mutants who are enrolled in the Xavier Institute. The focus of the game will be on the relationships between characters, what they believe in, and using their powers in cool ways. While superheroic situations and combat may arise, they will not be the focus of the game.
Each player will either create their very own young mutant, or adapt an existing one to their own flavor. The only limitations are that the character be between the ages of 13 and 18, to fit into the High School setting. Powers should also be discussed with the GM, making sure they aren't overtly obnoxious or too powerful.
This game will use the Cortex+ Dramatic system as detailed in the Smallville RPG and the Cortex+ Hacker's Guide. Our first session will be character creation and the development of the relationship map.
That being said, welcome to Academy X! We hope you survive the experience.
Style of play
The feel of this game will be dramatic, focusing on both the light-hearted and serious parts of being a teenager with fantastic powers.
Inspiration for this type of setting can be found in the New X-Men: Academy X comic line from which this is loosely based. Additionally, the tone will be somewhat similar to the show X-Men Evolution with some of the childish, early 2000 feel toned down.
This game will run using Cortex+ Dramatic.
This game will also be episodic in nature.
Five players will be the maximum, given the nature of the relationship map. If you either can't make a session or will be late, please give the GM due notice so that he can adjust the episode accordingly.
The character creation/relationship mapping session will be on March 6th at 9pm EST.
The game will be using Skype for voice and the Game Table on Infrno.
